Strategic Services Agencies (SSA)

Act No 24 of 1995 established the Strategic Services Agencies (SSA). The Strategic Services Agency is the central co-ordinating agency for the suppression of illicit drug traffic.

The main responsibilities of this Agency are:

  To centralise information that could facilitate the detection and prevention of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors.
  To co-ordinate operations for the suppression of traffic.
  To prepare and update a supply/reduction drug programme.
  To negotiate foreign technical assistance for the supply/reduction programme.
  To co-operate and liaise with the corresponding organisations or services of other countries.
